Our Story

Gareth and John discovered they shared a passion for designing and making crafted contemporary interiors over the two decades they ran their furniture businesses side by side in a west London workshop. Establishing SylvanWorks in 2021 fulfilled Gareth’s ambition to run a state-of-the-art studio with the capacity and skills to create beautiful bespoke cabinetry at scale. John came on board from day one as Operations Director. Our talented team of 12 makers are based at our 16,000 sqft workshop in Launceston. Gareth and John balance their time between Cornwall and London so they can oversee production while being highly responsive to clients’ needs.

Gareth Langdon

Gareth trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant, before discovering his true passion was designing and making beautiful furniture. After completing a degree in contemporary furniture design, Gareth ran his own furniture and kitchen company for 20 years before setting up SylvanWorks.

John Halifax

Operations Director

After training in architecture, John decided to pursue his passion for designing and making furniture, studying for two years under John Makepeace at the world renowned Parnham College. He has owned and run his own workshop creating and installing high end bespoke furniture for 20 years.

Our Environmental Commitment

At SylvanWorks we are committed to minimising our energy use, carbon emissions, waste and pollution from our processes and products. SylvanMakers are fully invested in our journey to continuously reduce the environmental impact of our business. We embed sustainability from the design stage by looking for opportunities to reduce waste and to propose recyclable and/or biodegradable solutions. We choose sustainable materials – with all timber products from FSC-certified sources and particle boards made from high-recycled content. Our electricity is provided by renewable energy providers and our heating needs are met using the wood waste generated in our production cycle. Importantly, SylvanWorks furniture and interiors are high-quality, and designed and built to last.
